The Brief

Create a grounded, visually compelling documentary about BHP’s Beenup site—once a controversial mineral sands mine in WA’s southwest. The film needed to chart the mine’s difficult history, the role of community consultation through the Beenup Consultative Group (BCG), and the transformation of the site into a globally recognised environmental rehabilitation success story.

How we did it

We began with deep research and talent pre-interviews to uncover the most meaningful story threads. Working closely with BHP, we developed a documentary outline that balanced technical insight with personal reflections. Over several days, we captured interviews, landscapes, and drone footage across Beenup and surrounding areas—revealing both the scars of the past and the beauty of the restored land. Post-production involved edit, mix, and grade, crafting a story that honours the people, science, and decades-long effort behind Beenup’s regeneration.
