The Top 3 Places to Shoot Video at Sunset in Perth

The Top 3 Places to Shoot Video at Sunset in Perth

There’s something amazing about a Perth sunset — the beautiful orange and blue tones, the landscape, the speckles of light on the ocean. Whether you’re shooting branded content, a personal project or cutaways, golden hour is when the effortless magic looking footage happens.

Here’s my Top 3 favourite places to film at sunset around Perth.

1. South Perth Foreshore

Best for: Sweeping skyline views, reflective water shots, wide-angle drone footage.

The South Perth foreshore delivers that postcard-perfect shot of the Perth CBD, especially as golden hour light reflects off the river and backlights the building. Whether you’re shooting a brand film or capturing a cutaway, it’s hard to beat the combo of water, cityscape, bokeh from lights emanating from the tall buildings and warm tones.

Pro Tip: Coode Street Jetty is an ideal spot for shooting talent in foreground with the skyline behind. Clean, simple, cinematic.

2. Swan View Station Platform (Railway Reserves Heritage Trail)

Best for: Historical texture, soft backlighting, bush-meets-industry visual contrast.

The old Swan View station ruins — just off the heritage trail near John Forrest National Park. Come sunset, the site glows with a rich, amber tone that plays beautifully on talent or scenic B-roll and when you add in a unique view of the Perth CBD in the distance this is a fantastic location to shoot.

Pro Tip: See if you can capture a plane landing or taking off in the background.

3. Perth’s Beaches (Cottesloe, Trigg, City Beach, All of them!!!)

Best for: Classic Perth vibes, silhouetted figures, warm reflective lighting.

How lucky are we to live in a place where the sun sets over the ocean. Whether you’re filming at Cottesloe’s iconic groyne, the dunes at Trigg, or the white sands of City Beach, you’ll get that signature Indian Ocean sunset glow. Great for product shoots, lifestyle content, or golden hour drone sweeps.

Pro Tip: Wet sand just after the tide recedes reflects sky colour beautifully — perfect for wide establishing shots or walking sequences.
